Anxiety

Anxiety

At Face to Face Therapia we believe that the ‘symptoms’ of anxiety are not exclusively triggered by negative events, such as failure, but all our life experiences. The philosopher Soren Kierkegaard saw existential anxiety as a manifestation of human spirit and freedom. For Kierkegaard, anxiety was a normal response to the potentially terrifying uncertainty of the human condition.

Anxiety can feel debilitating, as if something is weighing down on us. The symptoms of anxiety include: headaches, sweating, sleep disturbance, shortness of breath, tiredness, heart palpitations, feeling on edge, not being able to concentrate, muscle tensions, etc. Anxiety can range in severity from mild feelings of uneasiness to feelings of terror, panic attacks and phobias.

In therapy we aim to:
-become familiar with an individual's personal history, daily existence, and social interactions in order to identify what makes them vulnerable to anxiety
-reveal the ways in which anxiety can sometimes be useful
-alleviate anxious feelings by offering compassion and support
-reduce the severity of anxiety using techniques such as mindfulness, meditation and deep breathing exercises

If you are suffering from anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed, we are here to help.
