Tuba Alkan was introduced to Psychoanalysis after studying Manufacturing Engineering at ITU (Istanbul Technical University). Her interest in psychoanalysis led her to pursue a career in mental health and got a full scholarship to study psychology at Nisantasi University. Following her carrier as a white-collar engineer, she then graduated from Psychology. Since completing her psychology degree, she had been working as a psychotherapist at the Face to Face Therapia Psychotherapy centre in Levent, İstanbul. Her therapeutic approach is psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is an approach based on talking about childhood experiences, dreams and making free associations. According to psychoanalytical approach, unconscious influences thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy helps to become aware of unconscious/hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may contribute to your psychological problems. Instead of offering temporary quick solutions, this technique aims at deeper study on mental health problems to understand the underlying causes of the difficulties and to create a deep understanding of psychological conflicts and offers fundamental change and transformation.

Tuba is a founding member of the Psychoanalysis Research Association. She teaches at the association and gives seminars on Lacanian psychoanalysis. She is one of translators of Sigmund Freud's book "Papers on Technique" from English to Turkish. She has also contributed to some books such as; Love, Desire and Jouissance in Perversion, La cité et ses maîtres fous, Fundamentals of Psychoanalytic Technique.
